Black and White Charcoal Drawing

This is a drawing of a dog/wolf laying on his back. We were supposed to do a choice drawing using black and white charcoal to recreate an image. I personally think I did well on the eye that is on the right side of the paper and on the ear that is on the left. If I could, I would go back and fix the ear on the right and make it look more like fur. I chose not to blend any of it so that it looked like realistic hair. I think this is my favorite/best drawing that I've done in this class even though it could use a lot of work. Overall, i think I did a lot better than I was expecting.

Line Quality Drawing

Still Life Drawing

1-Pt Perspective Drawing

This is a drawing of a bottle with string and wire around it. I drew this using the basics of composition and the parts of light. I used an ebony pencil, pink eraser, and a Kleenex to create this. My goal for this was to draw what I saw in detail using shading, shadows, and light. I think I did well with the shading and spacing. I didn't have a lot of white or unused space. I also made sure that I didn't chose to draw anything that had tangents.

This is a drawing of a cup, a candle, and a wooden "A" for our still life drawing. I used a variety of values and a lot of shading to create this. I used an ebony pencil, pink eraser, and a Kleenex to do this. I made sure that I had even spacing around my objects. It is easy to tell that the candle is closer than the other objects because of the height of the bases. I also made sure that there were no tangents and that I drew this with the paper horizontal because of the way I set up the objects.

This is my one point perspective drawing of the hall outside of the art room. I chose this because I didn't really know what to do and I figured I would be able to do this because everyone knows what it looks like. I changed the way I did the wall on the right because I didn't know how to do a full glass wall with doors and in the picture, it wasn't easy to see what was outside of the doors so I wouldn't have had anything to put there. I liked the shadows in the stairwell because you can tell that it is away from the lights on the ceiling. I also like the shading of the lights and ceiling because even though they're extremely light, they're different from the ceiling color, making it easy to tell that they're lights. Overall, I like the detail because even if it was a simple looking hallway, I brought in shading details and values to make it look as if you were actually in the room.

"Self Portrait"

This is my "self portrait' drawing and I put that in quotes because it doesn't look like me. The goal of this assignment was to draw ourselves to show our understanding of the proportions and shading of the human face. I believe I was able to accomplish this even though I was unable to draw myself. I started by doing the measurements to find where everything would go (nose, eyes, hairline, mouth, eyebrows, etc). After, I began to draw those details and shade them in according to contours and shadows. I shaded my background and drew the outline of my hair and shirt. Lastly, I shaded everything, brought in darks, took out lights, and touched up on everything else. I'm fine that it looked nothing like me because I wasn't expecting it to even look anything like a person.

2 Point Perspective with human element

3 Cups Drawing

This is my 2 point perspective drawing with a human element. I chose to do an eye doctors office because it would incorporate a a human eye without making it look random. My goal for this was to draw an interior space using 2 point perspective while being able to add a human element without it looking weird. I struggled with deciding shading things to make them look closer/further away. I think I had an accurate perspective and did well with using a good value range.

This is a drawing of 3 cups found around the room. We were only given about 25 minutes to show the four basics of composition. I used a graphite pencil to draw what I was seeing along with shadows and a bit of shading. I chose to hold the paper horizontally because two of the cups I used were as wide as they were short. I used my spacing well and was able to use up as much space as possible. I also think I did well with the height of the bases because it is easy to see which cup is in front of the other.

Choice Drawing

For the choice drawing, I chose to do another 3 objects with graphite. I drew a cylinder, a timer/hour glass, and an open box. I chose to do this because I didn't have much time to do it. If I could redo it, I would push more into my values and fix my shadows. The light source was coming from the upper right hand corner. Although it could be better, I think I did well with my composition and spacing.
