For my animal illustration, i decided to do my dog, Wrigley. The image looks a bit off because it is a photo of the screen where I had my illustration. When I went to save my image, Adobe Illustrator shut down and deleted my progress from that day. Luckily, i had previously taken a picture of it. To do this, I used the pen tool to create different colored shapes. Then, I used the eyedropper tool to make them the colors of the original photo. After, I used the smooth tool to smooth out the shapes. I stuck with brownish/tan colors besides the highlight on a few surfaces. I struggled with deciding where to pull out the different layers and colors. if I could do this again, I would try to make it more basic with less shapes because I think it kind of looks like a mess. I also would have added a background but I didn't get a chance to.
